This policy applies to the UT Medicine patient portal administered by UT Health Austin (part of UT Medicine).
UT Health Austin, a division of UT Medicine (“we,” “us,” or “our”), is committed to safeguarding your information. This Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected through the UT Medicine Patient Portal mobile application developed by Epic Systems Corporation and explains what information may be collected when you use the app. This policy may be revised periodically, and all information collected will be managed in accordance with the version of the policy that is effective at the time of collection.
By using this app, you agree to this Privacy Policy and Epic Mobile Application Privacy Policy for Patients regarding the collection, use, sharing, and protection of your information, as outlined here and in the UT Health Austin Notice of Privacy Practices. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO USE THE APP.
Your information in this app is collected in various ways: you may provide the data directly via our app or by engaging with us, our health care professionals, service providers, and/or the app. In some cases, the way we collect and use personal information is subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”). If we collect such information, it will be treated as protected health information (“PHI”) in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and the UT Health Austin Notice of Privacy Practices. Furthermore, in certain situations, your data may be shared with HIPAA-compliant third-party vendors who support the operation of the UT Medicine Patient Portal in accordance with applicable privacy rules and regulations.
The UT Medicine Patient Portal may interact with your sensitive data to provide certain features, such as video visits or mobile appointment check‐ins. The first time you try to use any of these features, we will ask for your consent within the app and will only allow you to use a feature if you give consent. You do not have to provide consent if you do not want to allow the UT Medicine Patient Portal mobile app to interact with your data as requested.
The UT Medicine Patient Portal may also offer location‐based check‐in for in‐person appointments or allow you to find healthcare providers near you. The first time you try to use any features that use your location, we will ask for your consent within the app and will only access your location if you give consent. You do not have to provide consent if you do not want to allow UT Medicine Patient Portal to use your location. We do not store your location data.
