About This Specialty

Hepatology is offered through UT Health Austin’s Gastroenterology Clinic and diagnoses, treats, and manages liver and biliary conditions, including hepatitis, cirrhosis (liver scarring), fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, autoimmune liver disorders, and other complex hepatology conditions in adult patients (18 years and older). We provide advanced liver testing and personalized treatment plans to protect your liver health and overall well-being.

A healthy liver is essential for digestion, metabolism, and long-term health. Whether you are managing a chronic liver disease or experiencing new symptoms, we are committed to improving your liver function and quality of life.

Treatment Approach

At UT Health Austin, we take a multidisciplinary approach to your care. This means you will benefit from the expertise of multiple specialists across a variety of disciplines caring for you in one place to avoid having to schedule multiple appointments with providers at locations all over the city. The Hepatology care team includes hepatologists, gastroenterologists, and more who work together to support liver function and enhance your overall health.

We collaborate closely with referring physicians and other partners in the community. For patients requiring management of liver cancer, the Hepatology care team works with surgical oncologists, interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists to schedule and coordinate any additional care services you may need.

We also collaborate with our colleagues at the Dell Medical School and The University of Texas at Austin to utilize the latest research, diagnostic, and treatment techniques, allowing us to offer state-of-the-art, evidence-based treatment options for a wide range of liver and biliary conditions. Advanced imaging and lab testing are also available on-site if needed.
