Clinical Biography
Mehdi “Matt” Mirsaeidi, MD, MPH, is a board-certified pulmonologist in UT Health Austin’s Pulmonology Clinic. He specializes in interstitial lung disease (ILD), sarcoidosis, and complex respiratory infections. Additionally, Dr. Mirsaeidi is a professor and serves as the Chief of the Division of Pulmonology and Critical Care for the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Mirsaeidi earned his medical degree from Qazvin University of Medical Science in Iran and his master’s in public health from the University of Tehran in Iran. He completed a residency in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran and both an internship and residency in internal medicine at Providence Hospital through George Washington University. He completed a fellowship in pediatric sleep medicine and neuroscience and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Louisville and an advanced fellowship in pulmonary and critical care with an additional year of training in ILD and sarcoidosis at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Dr. Mirsaeidi’s clinical and research interests include interstitial lung disease and respiratory infections, with a special focus on sarcoidosis, scleroderma, lung cancer, and bacteriophage therapies. He has served on editorial boards and as a reviewer for numerous leading medical journals and has led or contributed to national and international clinical trials and research studies on COVID-19, sarcoidosis, pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and nontuberculous mycobacterial infections. He has published more than 260 peer-reviewed journal articles and contributed chapters to major reference works, including Encyclopedia of Infection and Immunity and Global Climate Change and Public Health. He has also authored and edited several books, most recently serving as Chief Editor for GHRHR: Agonists and Antagonists, and has been invited to speak at more than 50 national and international symposiums and conferences, presenting over 300 abstracts worldwide. In addition to his clinical and academic work, he is an entrepreneur with more than five patents and is an internationally recognized expert on climate change and its effects on human health. He has a strong interest in philosophy and artificial intelligence, and has published several essays exploring the intersection of these fields. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society, the Oxford Health Alliance.
